Cache Valley: Monitoring Data

UDAQ collects 24-hour averaged filter data that can be analyzed for total PM2.5 mass as well as broken down by chemical species. The chart below is the average filter composition for high wintertime PM2.5 events from the Logan monitoring site. The speciated data shows that ammonium nitrate makes up to 70% of the filter mass.

Monitoring Location

A single PM2.5 monitoring station is located in the Cache Valley to assess PM2.5 levels and the impact of fine particles on the population of the Valley. The monitor uses a Federal Reference Method (FRM) sampler that collects PM2.5 on a filter medium. This site also measures PM2.5 using a "real-time" monitor to help with air quality forecasts.
